Welcome to the Canadian Quarter Horse Association.

As the national affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association in Canada, CQHA’s mandate is to provide beneficial services for its members which enhance and encourage American Quarter Horse ownership and participation.

The CQHA aims to support, promote, and develop the country’s Quarter Horse community through national programs such as :

THE GRANT PROGRAM

Our annual grant program provides financial support to events having the potential to encourage the expansion of the AQHA/CQHA membership, the marketing of the American Quarter Horse, the understanding and protection of the breed, as well as the discovery of the American Quarter Horse’s many talents.

CANADIAN BRED AWARDS

Launched in 2022, the Canadian Bred Awards Program recognizes Canadian Bred registered Quarter Horses who excel in their disciplines at events across Canada. Event hosts can apply annually to present one of these awards at their event. Winners receive a presentation cheque for $250.00 and a remembrance token.

The CQHA Annual Awards Program

Designed to acknowledge the diversity of the quarter horse industry in Canada, the annual awards program recognizes Canadians and Canadian quarter horses for outstanding achievements and contributions.

Nominations are received from the CQHA membership annually and awarded based on merit within in a given show year or as a cumulative career.

Currently, CQHA presents the following awards:

  • Performance Horse Breeder of the Year
  • Race Horse Breeder of the Year
  • Ranch Horse Breeder of the Year
  • Canadian Trainer of the Year
  • Canadian Amateur of the Year
  • Canadian Youth of the Year
  • CQHA Youth Rising Star
  • Canadian AQH Bred and or Owned Horse of the Year
  • Canadian AQH Industry Development & Leadership Award (The Doris Heintz Award)
The CQHA Horse of Merit Program

Presented in partnership with Ace Therapy Canada, CQHA’s official independent BEMER partner, the Horse of Merit program recognizes matured quarter horses, fifteen years of age and older as of January first, who are still active participants in the industry. through competition, lesson & schooling programs, community services and on-farm/ranching operations, or enjoying a much-deserved retirement following a successful competitive or reproductive career.

Horses receiving the honour are presented with an official certificate of commendation and a specially minted medal of merit.

The Canadian National Amateur Team Tournament (CNATT)

Developed to bring Canadian Amateur competitors together through friendship, sportsmanship, and competition. Teams sponsored by Canadian-owned AQHA stallions and breeders. Team members earned points through social media activity (promoting CNATT and their team’s sponsor), taking part in non-horse activities hosted virtually and at shows throughout the country, and competing at Canadian events sanctioned by AQHA and Affiliate associations such as NRHA, NRCHA, NCHA, and National & Provincial Rodeos, Barrel Racing Associations and Hunter Circuits!

Youth World Cup / Team Canada

CQHA oversees the organization and assembly of Team Canada for the biennial American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup competition. This educational and leadership-focused competition brings together young people from around the world. They showcase their skills in a friendly competitive environment while learning from each other and top professionals in the industry..

Youth & Amateur Activities Committees
