Governance

The major project for the Governance Committee in 2021  was a complete review of our bylaws and governance process. It was the goal of the committee to have the new set of bylaws approved by the board of directors in time to be on the agenda for the 2021 Annual General Meeting. However, this review and rewriting of the bylaws turned out to be a huge, complicated  process and has resulted in the new bylaws not being approved on time to go out with the agenda.  Therefore, CQHA BY-LAWS #5 will be presented at the Annual General Meeting for discussion purposes only and placed on the agenda for a general meeting to be held during the Canadian AQHA Summit March 25-27.

In addition to the review of the bylaws, the Governance Committee agenda included:

  • Drafting and approval of the Governance Committee Terms of Reference
  • The review and approval of several of the other standing committees’ terms of reference
  • The drafting and approval of The Discipline, Complaints and Appeal Process Policy
  • The review of Equestrian Canada’s (EC’s)major policy documents. Since the CQHA is an industry affiliate of Equestrian Canada, the GC sought board approval to use these policies as reference documents in situations where we did not have specific CQHA policy documents in place. Specific documents that will be referenced by the CQHA include:

      – EC Code of Conduct and Ethics

      – EC Code of Conduct – Conflict of Interest

      – EC Abuse Policy

      – EC Safe Sport Policy

      – EC Concussion Policy

      – EC Social Media Policy

With all these initiatives, the Governance Committee is setting the course for the CQHA to operate efficiently and successfully fulfill its mandate.
