The third Canadian AQHA Trail Ride was held in the scenic Algonquin Provincial Park during the weekend of September 9-11, 2016.
A dozen dedicated trail riders checked in on Friday morning and the first outing took place from 11 AM to 2 PM followed by a bonfire social in the evening. Saturday morning started with a continental breakfast and a 9:30 to 11:30 AM warm up ride, including poker plod activity. After a light lunch, a trail ride from 12:30 to 4 PM was followed by fun activities and a BBQ supper. Sunday morning, breakfast from 8 to 9:30 AM preceded a four hour ride to wind up the event.
South Algonquin Trails is located at the southern tip of the Algonquin Provincial Park, located between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River in central Ontario, a favourite destination for Canadian and overseas tourists. Its 7,653 sq. km. are heavily wooded with northern coniferous forest and southern deciduous forest interspersed with over 2,400 lakes and 1,200 km. of streams and rivers. The wide variety of environments in the park allows it to support an uncommon diversity of plant and animal species, and is an important site for wildlife research.
